Herbie Barnes


Actor, playwright, director and dramaturge Herbie Barnes is an Anishinaabe from Aundeck Omni Kaning, Manitoulin Island. He is best known for his role as Joseph in the film Dance Me Outside and on the CBC series The Rez. His numerous stage credits include: Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit, Norvel Morrisou in Copper Thunderbird and as a Wikershame Brother in Seussical The Musical. Directing credits include The Remember (MTYP), Someday and Dinky (Native Earth), and Tales of an Urban Indian (Public Theatre NYC, Autry Theatre LA). As a writer, his play Russell’s World premiered at the Magnetic North Festival. He has also written television scripts for Buffalo Tracks and Tipi Tales (a show where he used his puppetry and vocal talents).

As an artist-educator, Herbie has facilitated programs in inner city elementary and secondary schools, private schools, universities, and many theatre companies. Click here for Herbie Barnes website.
