Kobèna Aquaa-Harrison

Groove§kool – Rhythm Is My Language

Storyteller supreme Kobèna Aquaa-Harrison presents an interactive, multicultural music and storytelling experience that explores how culture, creativity, and community are deeply interconnected. Engaging, profound, and hilarious stories and live music transport audiences across continents and generations. Students will participate in rhythm, song, and storytelling activities that foster appreciation for diversity, creativity, and global connection.

Kobèna accompanies his tales with a rich array of instruments—from the subtle kalimba to the driving energy of hard rock guitar. Explore a traveling museum of hand-crafted instruments including guitars, talking drums, marimba (balafon), seperewa (10-string harp-guitar), kamelen ngoni, kalimba, and a myriad of percussion instruments. Students will learn about the evolution and cultural contexts of these instruments—seeing how their voices echo in today’s world, whether on an African street corner or as the ringtone on a cellphone.
