Prologue’s Poetry Challenge: From Page to Stage

Announcing: Prologue’s Poetry Challenge – From Page to Stage

Prologue Performing Arts is pleased to announce that we will be running a poetry challenge throughout the month of April in celebration of National Poetry Month!

The League of Canadian Poets is celebrating poetry month with the theme of weather. We would like to add our own topic to this poetry challenge; the theme of HOPE. With these themes in mind, we call upon our community to participate, and connect over the incredible art of spoken word poetry. We invite you to write and perform your own poem centering the theme of hope.

Perhaps you would like to take inspiration from some weather-related imagery as well, such as “the winds of change”, “the dawning of a new day”, or some other less cliché idioms. Wherever your inspiration stems from, we want to hear your words of hope!

Ways to Participate: Write a poem on a page and take it to the stage!

  • Write a poem centering on the theme of hope, record yourself reading your poem, and send us the video for a chance to be featured on our social media channels and website. If you don’t wish to be on video, just send us an audio recording.
  • Perform your poem for your friends and family!
  • Get your whole school involved; host a poetry reading or poetry slam event and really take your poems from page to stage! Capture videos or photos and tag us on social media so that we can share.

How to submit

Send a cloud link of your video or audio file to Marketing Manager Kate Pharoah at [email protected] along with the following:

  • The name you wish to be credited with (first name and/or last name, stage name, alias, etc.)
  • The title of your poem
  • If you are sending an audio file, you can include an image that you wish to accompany it (optional, we can select or create the imagery to go with your poem)
  • If you are submitting the poem for a minor, please also submit this WAIVER FORM.

Poem in Your Pocket Day: April 18

Poem in Your Pocket Day is an international movement that encourages people to centre poetry within their daily interactions. We would love to share lots of your amazing poems on this day so if you would like to submit a poem, consider sending it to us by April 16th to be featured. We will be taking submissions throughout the entire month of April though.

Happy National Poetry Month!
